Introduction

This privacy statement is applicable to the TaxiRide.com website (“The Website”), the Pilot series GPS taximeter, and the TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor. TaxiRide® is a registered trademark of Special Systems, Inc. Throughout this document, Special Systems, Inc. may be referred to as “we,” “our,” “us,” “SSI,” or “TaxiRide®.”

The Website exhibits some of SSI’s fleet management solutions, but is not used to accept payment or used to process any transaction. This privacy statement does not apply to the websites of Business Partners, or to the websites of any third parties, even if links to their websites are on our website. We recommend that you review the privacy statements of the other parties with which you interact.

This privacy statement governs information we collect from you when you use SSI’s product lines, including, but not limited to the Pilot series taximeters, TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor, or The Website.

For purposes of this privacy statement, “Business Partners” means subcontractors, vendors, or other entities with whom we have ongoing business relationships to provide products, services, or information, as well as our distributors and resellers. “Personal Information” means information that can identify you, such as your name, telephone number, address, billing information, and email address.

Information We Collect

We may ask you to provide Personal Information when you:

  • Use The Website;
  • Drive a taxicab equipped with a Pilot series taximeter and/or TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor;
  • Ride as a passenger in a taxicab equipped with a Pilot series taximeter and/or TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor;
  • Are a medallion or taxicab owner of a vehicle equipped with a Pilot series taximeter and/or TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor;
  • Contact us, including for sales or technical support;
  • Participate in a marketing/sales promotion or an online survey;
  • Subscribe to our newsletters, promotional emails or other materials; or
  • Request information about SSI’s products lines, quotes, downloads, or white papers;

Personal Information we request may include, but is not limited to your email address, name, address, billing information and telephone number. We may also collect demographic information, such as your business or company information, age, gender, interests, preferences, and geographic location.

SSI may collect the following personally indefinable information from drivers and/or medallion owners of taxicabs in New York City who utilize a Pilot series taximeter and/or TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor: email address, name, address, billing information, telephone number, social security number, date of birth, and any other pertinent information. This information will be used solely for the purpose of maintaining driver records on the TaxiRide® platform.

Additionally, SSI may collect general information regarding the use of its products, which will not be used to identify any individual user. Such information may include device data logs, user activities, and error reports.

We may collect information about your visits to the TaxiRide® Website, including the pages you view, the links you click, search terms you enter, and other actions you take in connection with The Website. We may also collect certain information when you visit the TaxiRide® Website or third-party websites, such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and language, access times, the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of the website that referred you to our website and to which URL you browse away from our sites if you click on a link on our sites.

How We Use Personal Information

We use your Personal Information to:

  • Deliver services and support or carry out the transactions you have requested;
  • Send communications to you, such as your transaction status (for example, payment receipts), information about products and services available from SSI, event announcements, important product notices including those announcing changes to our terms or policies, information about particular SSI programs in which you have chosen to participate, promotional offers, and surveys;
  • Administer, customize, personalize, analyze and improve our products, services (including the content on the TaxiRide® Website), technologies, communications and relationship with you;
  • Enforce our conditions of sale, website terms and/or separate contracts (if applicable) with you;
  • Prevent fraud and other prohibited or illegal activities;
  • Protect the security or integrity of the TaxiRide® Website, our business, or our products or services; or
  • Otherwise, as disclosed to you at the point of collection or as required or permitted by law.

Personal Information collected may be securely stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which SSI or their subsidiaries or Business Partners maintain facilities.  SSI ensures that such storage and processing is subject to appropriate levels of protection to safeguard your Personal Information.

Disclosing Personal Information

We may share Personal Information with SSI’s subsidiaries or Business Partners to carry out transactions that you request, to make our business more responsive to your needs, to provide you with information about SSI and TaxiRide® and Pilot branded products and services, or for research and analysis. We may also disclose Personal Information in connection with legal orders from law enforcement or other government bodies; as required by law or regulation; to protect the rights of SSI, our customers, the public, or others; to combat fraud or criminal activity; or with your consent.

Such Business Partners may include a payment processor to bill you for services and an email service provider to send out emails on our behalf. We will only share Personal Information with Business Partners if necessary to complete an authorized transaction (example – payment processor). We will not disclose Personal Information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

We may share information with a purchaser of all or part of SSI.

We may aggregate or de-identify information so that it does not identify you and share that and other non-Personal Information with third parties for any purpose.

If riding as a passenger in an officially licensed New York City taxicab, the following information is required to be disclosed to the Taxi and Limousine Commission regarding your trip: pickup longitude and latitude, drop-off longitude and latitude, date and time of pickup/drop-off, total fare charged, payment type, tip amount if paid via credit/debit/prepaid card, passenger count, and trip distance. If riding as a passenger in a taxicab equipped with a Pilot series meter and/or TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor and paying your fare via credit/debit/prepaid card, SSI requires the following information in order to process your payment: name, billing address, email address, and payment card information.

SSI will not sell, or otherwise share any personal information that we gather about users, unless otherwise specified in this Privacy Policy. We will share information regarding your transactions on a SSI payment system only with a credit card processor in order to complete your transaction. This information is encrypted with 256-bit encryption to reduce the risk of the information being used or obtained by an unauthorized entity. These processors or other service providers are not authorized to disclose the information being transmitted to them, unless it is necessary to complete the transaction. Additionally, all payment card processors used by SSI must meet Payment Card Industry Standards, which include strict requirements on data privacy and security.

Your Rights to Your Personal Information

We will respond to all requests for access to your Personal Information within 30 days. We will retain your Personal Information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services and as necessary to comply with our legal, regulatory, or compliance obligations. Even if you do not enroll in marketing communications from SSI, we may still communicate with you in connection with servicing your account, fulfilling your requests, or administering any promotion or any program in which you may have elected to participate.

Collection and Use of Children’s Personal Information

We take children’s privacy seriously. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under the age of 13 through the TaxiRide® Website or TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor. If you are under 13 years of age, please do not submit any Personal Information through The Website or Passenger Information Monitor without the express consent and participation of a parent or guardian.

The Website uses “cookies” to help us identify our website audience. This information is not personally identifiable and used only on an aggregate level. We are committed to protecting the security of Personal Information. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect Personal Information from unauthorized access, use, and disclosure. When you provide us with sensitive Personal Information (such as financial information) we encrypt that information. While we strive to protect your Personal Information, we cannot ensure or guarantee that the Personal Information or private communications you transmit to us will always remain confidential, and you do so at your own risk.

The TaxiRide® Website and TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor may contain links to third-party sites such as the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission. We cannot control and are not responsible for the privacy practices of such third-party sites. We encourage users to be aware when they navigate away from our Website, and to read the privacy statements of each website they visit. This Privacy Statement applies only to the TaxiRide® Website, Pilot series taximeters, and TaxiRide® Passenger Information Monitor. Taxicab companies who utilize products of SSI are in no way affiliated with SSI and we take no responsibility for the privacy policies of individual taxi firms or third party partners. It is your responsibility to review such policies.

Effective Date and Notification of Changes to our Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement is effective as of December 14, 2015. We reserve the right to change this Privacy Statement at any time. If we materially change this Privacy Statement, we will update and post this document as soon as possible. Changes are effective as of the date we post them on the privacy statement page of The Website. We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Statement.
